A visit to the hygienist can often be undervalued and patients expectations are of a quick “scale and polish”.  Neel dentistry believe our hygienists deserve more credit for their skills and years of training.

Yes the hygienist is there to clean your teeth, as she can get to areas you cannot. Plaque bacteria can set hard within a week, this is impossible for you to remove with a brush alone. She will also help by providing you with tools and education to help you maintain a healthy mouth in between visits. There are products available to help make cleaning easier and more effective.

Often people can find treatment uncomfortable, please discuss this with your hygienist as there may be things that can be done to help alleviate discomfort.

Oral hygiene for Children

Neel dentistry believes prevention is better than cure and getting your children into good habits from a young age can be invaluable. A hygienist can give oral hygiene advice and techniques, discuss diet and provide fissure sealants as well as spotting any early areas of concern.

If your child is having orthodontics it is even more important to get them seen regularly to help clean around the appliance as this is a trap for plaque bacteria.
