Dental veneers

Veneers are a powerful cosmetic treatment used to restore and enhance the teeth. Veneers give flexibility when designing a new smile, as the entire shape of a tooth can be redesigned. As the name suggests, veneers are a thin layer of porcelain that are placed over a tooth.

Am I a suitable candidate for veneers?

Veneers are used to treat patients with a number of cosmetic issues, such as:

  • Small gaps in-between the teeth
  • Fractured or chipped teeth
  • Severely stained or discoloured teeth
  • Eroded or worn teeth
  • Teeth that are misaligned

The procedure

Veneers are typically made out of porcelain. During the veneer procedure, we place a very thin albeit strong layer of porcelain over a previously prepared tooth, bonding the two together with dental cement to give you a beautiful, healthy and natural-looking smile.

Before treatment begins, we will discuss all aspects of the procedure and the results you can expect to achieve. If you would like to proceed with treatment, a thorough treatment plan is assembled.

Will I have to wear temporary veneers first?

The veneer procedure takes place over two separate appointments. During the first visit, your teeth will be prepared, which involves shaping the enamel to fit the veneers. An impression of your teeth is taken and temporary veneers fitted whilst a lab technician crafts the permanent veneers.

The permanent veneers will be fitted at your second appointment. Dental cement is used to bond the veneers in place. The veneers are then polished to match the texture of the surrounding teeth. A follow-up appointment is scheduled to ensure your new veneers function and fit well.
